I needed a change. This system was on top of my list for the money. The center channel has come into it's own so far. The surrounds are built like tanks and fill out the matched system. The elegant towers are pretty darn great as well. I have to compliment them on the bass. The tower's 10 inch subs provide great extension for my music listening which was one of the things I was looking for. The towers' soundstage is starting to open up as well. These are my powerful "vanilla" speakers as I have come to call them and here's why.
The only quibble I have with this system is the mid-range. It tends to be a little recessed. There's no snap. They reproduce pleasing sound, but the "wow" soundstage or imagining factor tends to be low with these (hence, why I call them "vanilla"). It's the "please everyone" speaker in my opinion. The highs are extended but once again a little too bright for my tastes as well. So with the hours that I have invested into this system at this point in time, my conclusion is this. They have tight extended bass response, a recessed mid-range and a bright high end.
I tend to side on forward sounding speakers and these don't quite fit my listening tastes. They have a laid back presentation. Does that make them a bad speaker? NO! absolutely not. It just depends on your listening tastes.
This was a very attractive offering for the $2000 holiday offering and was hard to pass up. They are built superbly and the subs are great! The only thing they skimped on were the plastic end caps which is definitely a cost cutting measure (compared to the old piano finished MDF caps which the older Definitive towers used to have). When all is said and done, I still think they were a great purchase and will provide many years of great listening as my main theater rig.
Hopefully these will break in just a tad and open up a little bit more. I have recently cut down my treble response -4 decibels on my receiver and that has helped even them out. I really want to love these speakers but they haven't won my heart just yet. I will keep you posted if there are any changes.
Exceptional deal on the bundle of 5 speakers. Purchased this bundle for the 8060's based on other reviews and they do not disappoint. Thundering bass via the two powered integrated subwoofers and crystal clear clarity on the center for vocals. Paired it with a Denon AVR-X3000 7.2 channel system and could not be happier with the room filling sound. This bundle is a great value as it is barely more than the two 8060STs on their own.
The speakers were easy to hook up and sound great. The fact that they recommend that you not use the auto calibration mode on receivers was not expected. I tried both methods and found that my own settings were best for me. It took awhile and the help of friends more audiophile than me to get it right.
These are great set of speakers for home theater system.. I initially tried these with an old receiver and did not get most out of these. I replaced my old receiver with a newer model and these just are excellent with great sound, good bass and very nice. The tower speakers has a manual control to up the bass, I keep it midway not to damage the window (glass) panes :)
I would recomend but have not been able to really hear what these speakers can do yet, but so far I am really satisfied with my purchase. They are a very nice looking set of speakers and do pump out the base with not having to have a huge big block sub, it's nice not to have that taking up space when you are limited with space. They do sound as well or better than my other speakers I had (Boston Acoustics which are a super speaker system). But if you don't know what kind of sound you are looking for I would suggest you visit a dealer and compare speaker systems.
