Let me say right off - Energy/Klipsch/Audiovox totally blew it on marketing these speakers & the larger 6.3 three-way model. They demand break-in time, quality electronics & high power to sound their best. You can get decent sound from a typical received or amp of say 60 watts per channel, but you will NOT realize the clean dynamic range, clarity at low to medium volume & bass they are capable of delivering. It is true that the two 6-inch woofers won't provide 'gut wrenching' bass or low frequency punch from movies like a high-power subwoofer. What they do give you from highest to lowest range is tonal purity, clarity, lack of annoying cabinet resonances, and a listening experience that is musical especially on acoustic instruments. Best sound is heard with the grills removed.
I've owned a wide ranging assortment of speakers of various sizes: Magnepan SMG & MMG, a/d/s L420 & L1290, AR5, 3a, & 2ax, JBL L100T, 4312, Polk Monitor 10, 7, 4.6, RTA12 - and all of them have their own good and bad points. I'd say these hold their own given their size & sound delivered. The product literature (owner's manual) doesn't give any reasons why/when to use the port plugs provided, best room placement, recommended amplifier power, or anything about break-in time. ALL of that should be discussed/explained for the $2200 original MSRP. The old Veritas line covered those type details. Once again we witness the demise of a quality company & it's products after another company's takeover and outsourcing. Pity...
If you can find a pair - in black or rosenut - buy them. Just match them up with at least a 200/wpc amp & let the grins begin.
I bought two of the V6.2 and one V5.2 Center speaker and two CR10 surround speakers for my entertainment system. This system sounds GREAT! Very pleased with purchase. I have a Denon 3310 Receiver to power them.
