Act now. Do not let this deal pass you by. For under two-hundred bucks for a pair (including S/H), you will not be sorry. I am already thrilled with the quality and sound of these speakers. And I am still in the recommended "breaking in period." I will update my review if needed once I can fully test their capabilities, but I can already tell these are an excellent value compared to speakers listed at 2 or 3 times the price. I had planned on buying a pair of Polk 50s as I owned an original set of Polk 10 Monitors back in the day. However, the Athena's have a ported 6.5 woofer, and reviews suggested the Polk's were a bit weak in the bottom end. And the Athena's are substantially cheaper when you figure in S/H.
You can't go wrong with Athena (except the AS series powered subs I heard had amp probs). Athena was consistently rated best speakers <$1,000. I have Athena F2's and the C1 center. These LS-300's are basically a slightly cheaper version of the old F1's. I use these as my front surround speakers and they are instantly warmer, richer sound than the Boston Acoustics they replaced, although slightly less efficient. VERY happy with my purchase, especially at these final inventory clearance prices. Just too bad Klipsch bought Athena to eliminate the competition.
I read that Klipsch bought Athena and I noticed they were selling off all of the speakers. I bought one on amazon for and found one on ebay. Even though they are not a matched pair these things sound fantastic. I do not think I will be replacing them for years to come. I use them with a Dayton Audio APA 150 AMP and I could not be happier.
bought these 10/30/08.started using them 11/6/08. have about 40 hrs. on them at this point.running an onkyo 304 5.1 receiver, polk cs1 center, polk m30s as rears. sony 2500 sub.the athenas blend well. i hope they continue to open up as other reviewers stated they did. as i would like to have alittle more low end presence from them. i know thats what the sub is for, but i was using 1984 a.d.s.L570s as fronts and they had that. saw fry's had infinity P362s for 119.00 apiece thanksgiving weekend.ive never heard the 362s but a three way system with 2 more low end drivers and 2 more high end drivers might have been just what i was looking for. at this point im second guessing myself. i think the fit and finish is ok. on some music the high end is a little bright and the lows are alittle light. but ill give them some more time and if idont eventually fall in love with them, youll see them on ebay in 2009.Update 2012. I found a pair of ls 50's and an Energy center channel speaker, and everything sounds good. The Athena's are a good buy for the buck's you spend.
For the dollar these are excellent. It is however virtually impossible to find a new ls-c100 center to match. For the money I think the ls-500 are a better value, though you cant go wrong with the ls-300's.
